Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy

The interaction of IR radiation with a given material causes its molecular bonds to vibrate in a way that is characteristic of the chemical compound in question, and this vibration constitutes a spectrum ‘fingerprint’ that can be compared to identify the substance.
