As a public service and reference cultural institution in Catalunya, the Museu Nacional has the will to maintain the social implication to the most and, in this way, in 2014 it was the first public cultural entity of the State to obtain the certificate of Social Responsibility IQNet SR10. 

In this field, some strands impulsed is the fight against women's discrimination in the artistic and intellectual creation and production, as well as enjoy it, as it is proposed by the 26th article of the Gender Equality Law. For this purpose, the museum organizes every year several activities.

The 2019 proposal is this one: 

  • 7th of March

'Leyendo Lorca' (Reading Lorca). Poetic dramatization directed and interpreted by Irene Escolar. At 7 pm, free entry with pre-booking

  • 8th of March

Open doors to all women! 

  • 9th of March

Small stories, great women. Io Valls will do a dramatic reading of women’s vital and professional stories with ties to the themes around the different museums of Barcelona. At 5pm, free admission with pre-booking. Family activity for children from 6 years old

  • March Sundays 

Guided visits in terms of gender, Sundays of March, at 11.30 am. Activity included in the ticket price (with prior reservation)

You can also see some works of women artists that the museum has preserved in this virtual itinerary: ten women of different times, different styles and different origins that, before anything else, were artists.  

Or you could take a look at the itinerary The Evolution of Woman so you can see how the social context influenced the art world at the end of the 19th century and beginnings of the 20th and the transformations in fashion and style during the art nouveau and the art déco eras. Not in vain, art and fashion have been the main reflection of the social reality and the representation of the most important changes that society has lived through at certain times, and the museum’s collections echo that fact.
