Marcel·lí Antúnez Roca (Moià, 1959) is known for developing radical and moving work that combines technology with body art. His work with the avant-garde theatre groups Los Rinos and La Fura dels Baus introduced him to a transgressive, collective mode of creative practice. In recent years, he has moved towards a very particular form of collaborative art, in which drawing and festivity guide us towards a militant affirmation of nature, environmentalism and agrarian culture.
Natura centrum est brings together backdrops and objects from actions, installations and murals created with the participation of diverse and heterogeneous individuals and collectives, from 2014 to the present. The ten modules and the giant figure of Vulcano organise hundreds of objects, among which the eyelid backdrops and giant drawings stand out. Like pop-up books, these works can change their appearance when opened, as if revealing new windows.
Each day at noon, visitors are invited to take part in a collective action that transforms the exhibition and brings the backdrops to life. This installation – a grotesque yet beautiful, joyful and assertive procession – fills the Museum space with energy, turning it into a camp of resistance and learning that calls attention to the urgent need to challenge the civilising doctrine that has displaced nature from the centre of our shared life.
