Reclaim nature at the MNAC with Marcel·lí Antúnez Roca
From December 20 to January 6, the Oval Room hosts the participatory installation Natura Centrum Est. Oval Camp, by artist Marcel·lí Antúnez Roca, one of the founders of the avant-garde theatre groups Los Rinos and La Fura dels Baus. He is also known for his transgressive work merging technology and body art.
In recent years, Antúnez has shifted towards a more festive and collaborative art that champions a nature society has pushed aside. In the Natura Centrum Est installation, visitors will be able to see the result of this work, which the artist has carried out with various groups and organisations to highlight nature, environmentalism, and agrarian culture.
Natura Centrum Est is conceived as a camp through which visitors can wander among backdrops and objects stemming from these actions, such as the giant 12-metre-tall figure of Vulcan, the eyelid backdrops, or the enormous drawings that, like pop-up books, change appearance when opened like windows.
In addition, every day (except Mondays and public holidays—check dates) at 12 p.m., Marcel·lí Antúnez will lead a playful/activist parade that brings these backdrops to life, and he will do so with the music band Fail Again Ensemble (Marceluia and his Mireios). Participants will be able to interact with the costumes and drawings created by the artist, which highlight 25 national and international eco-activist figures.
It is a unique opportunity to enter Antúnez’s imagination: only 15 days, only at the MNAC!
This participatory installation has been carried out in collaboration with the Sismògraf Festival of Olot, the Drap-Art art and sustainability festival, and the centre d’art contemporani Bòlit de Girona.
