Description:

Exhibition catalogue that takes a look at the history and culture of the Iberians through their coinage, from the moment when coinage arrived in the territories inhabited by the Iberians and the first ones minted by them. It shows the varied range of issues in silver and bronze struck by these peoples under Roman rule during the 2nd century BC and the first half of the 1st century BC, as well as those with similar characteristics produced by the Celtiberians. The information contributed by the iconographies and inscriptions on coins is also analyzed, one of the most solid bases for getting some idea of the long-lost Iberian languages. In many cases, coins and their inscriptions are the only testimony we have of some of their cities and the magistrates that governed them.
