Tetramorph

Tetramorph

Representation of four elements (from the Greektetra –four- andmorfos –form-), that in Christian iconography has been associated, since the 6th century, with the symbolic figures of the four evangelists.  We can therefore see the man, of Matthew, the eagle of John, the bull, of Luke, and the lion, of Mark.  It often appears surrounding the image of theMaiestas Domini, or Christ in Majesty.
