In the view of the Grand Canal across from the campanile and the fish market can be seen the great edifice of the Mint of Venice -- the Zecca, the work of the architect Jacopo Sansovino (1486-1570) -- which was inaugurated in 1545 and which then provided coinage for the serenissima repubblica until 1870.
