Modern Posters in the Collections of the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints is made up of over 80 works that allow us to appraise the influence European posters had on the process of putting together the great Catalan collections of the time.
The exhibition also shows the impact that European advertising models and the artistic forms designed by the great artists had in the birth and later development of this advertising art in Catalonia.
The Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Museu Nacional has a very important collection of over 600 Modernista posters, foreign and Catalan, acquired in 1903 from Lluís Plandiura and in 1921 from Alexandre de Riquer. It is a group which includes some of the most qualified representatives of European poster designing, like for example Alphonse Mucha, Jules Chéret, Théophile Alexandre Steinlen, Henri Meunier or Henri Privat-Livemont, among others.
