The guided hand l Resources for the visit
This exhibition will present and analyse the singular creativity of two women, the Catalan artist Josefa Tolrà (1880-1959) and the British artist Madge Gill (1882-1961). Artists of vast production who never thought of being recognised with this condition, both closely linked to esoteric knowledge and the methodology of the creative act guided by the automatism of the altered state of consciousness: "the guiding hand".
“Born before 1918, they are women suffering from the crisis of the modern utopia in some turbulent decades of European history. Creativity helps them restore their inner voice, the Soul, taking control of their destiny in situations of deep sadness and psychological fragility. The works emerge as mystical healing experiences. Their creations emanate an extraordinary beauty: floral drawings, gardens of Eden, cosmic imaginaries, portraits of spirits, sacred abstractions, secret alphabets, healing recipes, transmission of messages and scientific writing. Their art is neither academic nor commercial, it reveals hidden images to us."
Pilar Bonet, curator
Four dialogues with two voices, four unsuspected conversations around the exhibition The guided hand, in which different guests, members of the research group 'Visionary Women Art', converse for 10-15 minutes, from their respective fields , experiences and knowledge, to offer a transversal view that enriches and brings new perspectives to the exhibition. Among the participants are researchers, artists, teachers, etc.
The conversations are in Catalan and/or Spanish.
