TheMaiestas Dominior Chirst in Majesty from Sant Climent de Taüll is one of the icons of Romanesque art. It presides over an ensemble dated drom the consecration of the church in 1123 by Bishop Ramon de Roda d'Isàvena. In order to understand its iconography, we must take into consideration the important remains which are still perfectly visible in the chuch of origin.The apse vault presents the main theme: Christ in Majesty, contained in the mandorla encompassed by the symbols of the evangelists an by angels. Beneath, the wall features the figures of Mary and apostles contained in arches. Further below we see the usual curtains, here greatly deteriorated. In the center of inner arch we see the hand of God, which forms part of rendering of the offerings of Cain and Abel, preserved parciallyin situ, where we also contemplate the scene in which Cain slays his brother. The outer arch contains the apocalypticAgnus Deiwith its seven eyes, an iconic imatge in itself.
