Description:

Catalogue of the exhibition at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya from June 13th 2007 to May 4th 2008 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Numismatic Cabinet of Catalonia (GNC). To celebrate this event, for the first time an overall view, centred on Catalonia, is offered of the development of numismatics as a discipline, from the Renaissance to the 20th century, through the formation of private coin collections, the beginning and the consolidation of numismatic studies and the foundation of specific public museums. All this is justified by the fact that, since its creation, the GNC has inherited this long tradition by taking charge of the main public and private Catalan numismatic collections and libraries. In the last section of the book the rich variety of pieces that the GNC looks after has been systematised ? from coins to valuable paper, from the manufacturing instruments to the medal or sigillography and the most representative examples in the museum collections have been chosen.
