Carbonation

A reaction that occurs during the drying of a fresco, in which an exchange of calcium hydroxide in the paint, which evaporates, and carbon dioxide in the air forms calcium carbonate. The pigments, surrounded by the crystallization of the surface carbonate, are fixed in a layer of calcium.
