Post-war art on tapestry and macramé by Aurèlia Muñoz
Post-war art on tapestry and macramé by Aurèlia Muñoz
From 24 October, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya will be exhibiting seven textile works and a varied collection of drawings that show the quality, originality, consistency and intensity of her poetics and work over the years. These works will be on display temporarily in the context of the project to configure and display art of the post-war period and the second avant-garde until April 2020.
The exhibition captures the creation of the language of textile art thanks to her works, since Aurèlia Muñoz was a well-known artist at the forefront of tapestry art and textile art, besides taking this area of art to a sculptural conception that affects the space and offers a sensory experience. Revisited, her works show a refinement, an avant-garde rigour and an expressive belonging that not only makes it necessary to rescue them for posterity, but which is susceptible to interpretations from a contemporary point of view.
The collection contains works from the early 1960s including a linear painting on rustic sackcloth, textile collages on paper, and the patchwork technique in the tapestry called La font de la vida. Moreover, it will also be possible to visit the work Ens social (1976), a large voluminous sculpture projected into space, exhibited together with sketches and plans that help us to understand the larger pieces and reveal her quality as a draughtswoman.
