The bodies we inhabit are our place in the world. The landscape that moves around it is our home, our neighbourhood, Poble-sec. By making our bodies visible, we make our stories and our role in the life of this community visible.
“Fem Memòria” (Let’s remember) is a research and storytelling project that makes visible the experiences of women of different ages and communities, and records their audio-biographies and photographs to share in different spaces. Active listening, dialogue and the gender perspective are the tools to share their memory, aware that, from closeness, relationships, cohesion and social inclusion, we can improve our lives, especially in moments of emergency.
With the material collected from the lockdown of 2020, audiovisual workshops aimed at school-age people have been revitalised, and the personal photographic archives of women and different institutions have been put into dialogue, organising exhibitions, opening spaces for relationships, learning and leisure. To each experience one more piece of this narrative has been added that changes over time, while the backbone remains unchanged: to open a debate on what model of society we want and what is the cultural heritage of a neighbourhood, in order to find new ways to take care of ourselves by being together.
For this new installation, “Anada i Tornada” (Back and Forth), next to the family photographic archives of the protagonists, their audio-biographies linked to QR codes and a documentary short film with some of their stories, including two new proposals:
- the artistic work of the illustrator Alicia Pascual Fernández, who has carried out a series of portraits of women
- a new documentary piece where some of the people who are part of the project comment on a selection of paintings from the museum’s collection in relation to their own experiences
The museum has opened its doors to the Fem Memòria Collective and this group has done the same, generating together a new way back and forth that we invite you to travel.
