Praha Paris Barcelona

The birth of modern photography corresponds, in Europe, to the years between the wars and coincides with the Avant-garde bursting on the scene. At that time a discourse of photographic renewal was imposed internationally: we talk of a New Vision, New Objectivity, and so on. This period witnessed a great wealth of experimentation in all the arts, and perhaps photography was one of the ones that took fullest advantage of this experimentation. Ever since photography was incorporated to its collections, in 1996, the MNAC has been carrying out research work that has enabled it to enrich itself with some of the most important work of the Catalan photographers of this period. It now presents the exhibition Prague, Paris, Barcelona. Photographic Modernity, 1918-1948 with the aim of giving Catalan photographers their due place in the international context for the first time.
