Pere Torné i Esquius
Pere Torné i Esquius
(1879-1936)
Was a Catalan painter and drawer. He studied at Llotja in the middle of Modernism era, despite his unconventional style never truly fitted with this movement nor with the Noucentista.
Torné was very popular in his times for his children’s literature illustrations and his singular iconography –very personal, with a simple and clear style-, very famous in this genre. His most famous book was Els dolços indrets de Catalunya (1910), with the Joan Maragall prologue. He also illustrated for Josep Carner, French and Catalan publications, magazines and newspapers.
