Guided visits for groups of minimum 10, maximum 25 people (1 person accompanying per group), to the temporary exhibitions, to the collection, and to the singular spaces of the building. In some cases the maximum allowed is 15 people. Exceptionally the museum can vary the access conditions to the guided visit.

It is essential to book the visit two weeks in advance. You will receive confirmation of the booking when you make the payment which you should hand over to the reception of groups the day you come. All groups enjoy a 30% off the prevailing rate.

Audio devices are issued 20 minutes before each visit at the groups desk. To speed the process, please ensure you are on time. In special cases, the museum may change the conditions of access to the visit. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Practical information

You cannot enter with an umbrella or other objects of certain volume. The visit will be more comfortable and together if any incidents are avoided. There is a cloakroom for your convenience in the museum.

For reasons of conservation and security, you are not allowed to take photos or to touch the works of art, or other elements of furniture of the storerooms.

The Palau Nacional, architecture and memory

Visit the building to find out about the architecture and the history. Discover spaces such as the Sala Sert or the terraces, from which you can contemplate some unique views of Barcelona.

In the mid-19th century, with the rise of the bourgeoisie, the modern artist was born. Breaking away from the Ancien Régime and its ties to the Church and aristocracy, the new artist found a place in the anonymous market and the cosmopolitan city. Art and civil war (1h 30min)

Discover the new galleries on Art and the Civil War, highlighting the role of artists in the fight and resistance. The collection includes painting, posters, sculpture, photography, audiovisuals, and drawing. Key features of the new display include previously unseen works, many created during the conflict, as well as the perspective of women artists.

"Of course, you had to be women!" Dismantling gender stereotypes through the collection

This visit offers a reflection on the changing roles and status of women throughout history, based on the documentary value of heritage objects. A feminist reading of the collection explores the artistic and political mechanisms that have often contributed to the erasure of women. The itinerary also highlights the transformations and subversions brought about by women artists and feminist struggles. The visit is available in two formats: medieval art itinerary or modern art itinerary.

Insubordinate gazes: reflecting on sexual diversity and desire through art

This visit offers a tour through the museum’s medieval and modern art collections with the aim of reflecting on the normative processes that shape our gender identity and sexual orientation. It involves a critical examination of the artworks as cultural artifacts and primary sources of knowledge, with the goal of deconstructing and rethinking gender archetypes from a feminist and LGTBI+ perspective.

Modernism(s) (1 h 30 min)

This guided visit will reveal the scenario of the city of Barcelona at the turn-of-the-century period, in which bourgeois salons, taverns, brothels, music halls and the streets were the usual place for the modern artist. We will discover a city shaken by violent class warfare, where the bourgeois house becomes an idyllic shelter and its architecture, the synthesis of arts and crafts.
