Description:
Manuel Bayeu (1740-1809), from Aragon, was a Carthusian friar who never stopped painting during his entire life. They say he could have risen within the order, but Brother Bayeu was never considered to be more than a simple 'brother' or 'llec', a less contemplative position in the Carthusians, which enabled him to be freer when painting and travelling outside the friary. If you want to know more about this self-portrait of Bayeu, click here and you will have access to the Second Canvas guide, where you will find more about the history and details of this work.
