Description:
Manuel Bayeu (1740-1809), from Aragon, was a Carthusian friar who never stopped painting during his entire life. They say he could have risen within the order, but Brother Bayeu was never considered to be more than a simple ‘brother’ or ‘llec’, a less contemplative position in the Carthusians, which enabled him to be freer when painting and travelling outside the friary.
