Description:
The Miracles of the Master of Cabestany is an audiovisual piece that takes the figure of the Master of Cabestany as a starting point to reflect on the enduring nature of Romanesque imagery and its ability to inspire contemporary interpretations.

The short film by Rosa Tharrats and Gabriel Ventura is conceived as a tool to spark thought, conversation, and shared experience around this key figure of European Romanesque art. It stems from research into the pilgrimage routes to the mountain of Sant Pere de Rodes, carried out during a residency at ARBAR. In addition to safeguarding valuable relics — including the head and right arm of Saint Peter the Apostle — “the monastery granted pilgrims the same indulgences that could be obtained at Saint Peter’s in Rome.” Among the monastery’s buildings, the church portal stands out, sculpted in the mid-12th century by the workshop of the Master of Cabestany.

Between inner monologue and dream, The Miracles of the Master of Cabestany immerses us in the artist’s visions as he imagines the future sculptures he is preparing for the portal of the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. Inspired by three miracles recounted in the New Testament (the resurrection of Lazarus, the transformation of water into wine, and the miracle of the withered hand), the Master reflects on his vocation and the mysteries of divinity.

Following the screening, there will be a round-table discussion featuring artist Rosa Tharrats, poet and artist Gabriel Ventura, film editor Ariadna Ribas Surís, filmmaker Xisi Sofia Ye Chen, and curator Marta Pol Rigau.
