Topic guide Montaner y Simón

The large number of publishing houses based in Barcelona makes the city a publishing capital. Ramon Montaner Vila (1832-1921) and Francesc Simón Font (1843-1923) founded in 1868 one of the most important publishing houses at a national level: Editorial Montaner i Simón.

The volumes of the publisher Montaner i Simón stood out for their careful editing and the collaboration of renowned illustrators. In 1881 the publishing house decided to settle permanently on Carrer Aragó. The new location would be a building designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, nephew of Ramon Montaner. Today, this historic building hosts the collection of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies.

With this thematic guide, the Joaquim Folch i Torres Library aims to highlight the role that publishing houses play in cultural life.
