Font de la Vida (Source of Life), by Aurèlia Muñoz, has been incorporated into the museum thanks to a crowdfunding campaign of the Friends

Date range:
12/12/2019

Thanks to 152 donors who have participated in this campaign with contributions ranging from €20 to €1,000, Friends of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya have managed, once again, to collect €15,000  to acquire a fundamental work in the trajectory of the artist Aurèlia Muñoz (Barcelona, 1926-2011).

In recent years, the Friends have made various incorporations to the museum possible. Through a crowdfunding campaign, a drawing by Marià Fortuny was acquired and the restoration process was carried out of the sculpture by Pablo Gargallo The violinist.

Furthermore, other works have been acquired, such as Old couple, by Carles Casagemas, the oil painting Crani, by Josep Guinovart, a series of three works by Mari Chordà and a set of four original drawings by Enric Sió.

Font de la vida (Source of Life), a tapestry from 1966, forms part of the exhibition Knotting the space. Aurèlia Muñoz Donation, which can be visited until April 2020 in the modern art rooms. The piece is added to the set of works that have been incorporated in the Museu Nacional donated by the artist's family, a total of 9 textile works and 18 drawings that reveal the originality of the techniques of this artist, one of the most notable representatives of the international "new tapestry" movement that emerged in the mid-1960s. Her eminently experimental work reveals a great poetic intensity.
