Nicolau Raurich 1871-1945. Visions mediterrànies
Nicolau Raurich 1871-1945. Visions mediterrànies
The pages of this catalogue allow us to discover one of the most unjustly forgotten Catalan painters of the previous turn of the century. A vehement and impassioned artist, his early work partakes of an austere, melancholy realism which, drawing on his Rome experience, bring Raurich close to Enric Serra’s paintings of Il Ponto lakelets. Back in Barcelona, Raurich's work reveals his powerful personality, dominated by attacks of depression, and his artistic temperament. His paintings become extremely dense in material, free in form; and his vibrant, highstrung colours become allies for expressing emotions. This is one of the most fertile points in his career. The catalogue consists of a number of essays on Raurich's life and work and the critics' assessment of his painting, along with a cataloguing of 123 pieces and a rigorously prepared bibliography.
