Moneda i administració del territori. IV Curs d'Història monetària d'Hispània del GNC

Coins and the Governing of Territories. Synthesis of the conferences within the IV Course on the Monetary History of Hispania (November 23 and 24, 2000), 'Coins and the Governing of Territories', which analyses how coins reveal important aspects of the Roman administration of Hispania, about which the ancient historians give us very little data. Here the locations of mints within the framework of Roman territorial organization is studied, from the beginning of the conquest of the Iberian peninsula on till when it was completely under Roman dominion. It is seen that iconography and inscriptions on coins are also a revealing source of information in the study of how territories were governed, as they offer such significant data as the names of magistrates governing cities within Hispania. It is also important to look at the role of coins in the general management of the Hispanic provinces and the relationship between locally minted coins and those originating in the official mint of Rome.
