El Museu Dansat is an educational project launched in the 2023–2024 academic year, born from the collaboration between two neighbouring institutions, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and the Conservatori Professional de Dansa (CPD) of the Institut del Teatre. Throughout the academic year, the Museum makes its collection available to CPD students so that they can choose, imagine and interpret works of art through their bodies.

This creative project is developed within the CPD’s Free Workshops programme, a space for practice and creative autonomy in which students explore their own expressive language. Through group sessions of observation and reflection on works of art from the Museum, led by the MNAC Education team, fifth- and sixth-year students from the three dance specialisms —classical, contemporary and Spanish dance— take on the challenge of creating choreographies in different formats, as solos, duets or group pieces, freely inspired by a work from the collection. The subject of a painting, the emotion conveyed by a work, its colour palette, an unexpected detail, the composition or a figure can all become sources of inspiration for their creations. In this way, El Museu Dansat proposes a dialogue between the visual arts and the performing arts through the perspective and sensitivity of these future dance professionals.

This project aims to strengthen the MNAC’s role as a leading museum in its work with educational communities in Catalonia, and the CPD’s role as a leading centre for performing arts education in Spain and Europe, while also reinforcing collaboration with Montjuïc’s cultural community.

The project has continued to grow, and in the 2024–2025 edition, dancing tours were introduced: a route through the collection galleries combining explanations with choreographies performed by fifth- and sixth-year students.
