Catalogue of the exhibition that the Museu d’Art de Girona has organized in collaboration with the MNAC based on the history painting by Ramon Martí Alsina, Girona’s Great Day (1863-1864), a large-size painting of the defence of the city of Girona on September 19th 1809 against Napoleon’s army. The articles in it, written by various specialists, enlighten us on the work, its painter, and the Peninsular War, whose 200th anniversary has recently been celebrated. The text written about the restoration of the painting is worthy of note, for its interest, as it gives us a clear idea of the complexity of the work that has been done in the last year to be able to recover such an exceptional painting.
