Installation ‘Postcards of Barcelona 1888-1929’
Date range:
02/05/2022Until 10 July 2022 you can visit, in the former museum bookshop, the installation Postcards of Barcelona 1888-1929, a show that will present a selection of postcards from the Enrique Matas-Ramis Bequest, via a metal totem pole projecting them on the wall.
This exhibition is the result of the work done by the library team, which is describing and digitizing the collection of old postcards that entered the museum in 1957, as part of the Enrique Matas-Ramis Bequest. It comprises more than 2,000 postcards of Barcelona. The museum’s Joaquim Folch i Torres Library invites you to have a look at the Barcelona in which Gaudí designed and executed his work, a city in the process of transformation and modernization. It is the period in which the city’s cosmopolitan personality began to be defined, with the Universal Exposition in 1888 and the International Exposition in 1929, and where the urbanization of the Eixample, the opening of the Via Laietana, the enlargement of the port, or the urban development of Tibidabo, can already be seen. A Barcelona boiling over also from the social, artistic and cultural point of view, eager to place itself on an equal footing with the great capital cities.
