Four works by Ramon Amadeu complete the long-term loan to the Museum of the Saints in Olot

The Museu Nacional has increased its long-term loan to the Museums of Olot with four figurines by the Catalan sculptor Ramon Amadeu, to be displayed in the new rooms of the Museu dels Sants.

The works are part of a sizeable exhibition of the work of Ramon Amadeu (Barcelona, 1745-1821), an outstanding maker of images of saints, who maintained close links with the city of Olot, where he worked on buildings such as the Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Tura or the church of Sant Esteve.

He is artistically associated with Nativity scene figurines, as he is the oldest recorded Catalan sculptor who paved the way for the Catalan figuraires working in this discipline during the 19th century and subsequently. His works are noted for their human qualities, reflected realistically and simply, taking typical characters from the countryside as points of reference.

As a result of this exhibition, Joan Yeguas, the Museu Nacional’s Renaissance and Baroque conservator and the curator of this new presentation, has revised the artist’s catalogue, because due to the popularity that he achieved the number of works attributed to him increased.
