Talk given by Cèsar Favà Monllau, curator of the Medieval Area of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, within the cycle of talks Medieval memory in the museums of Barcelona (consult the full programme of talks in the attached pdf).
The talk is based on the Mare de Déu dels Àngels of Tortosa, one of the most relevant works from the collection of Gothic art of the Museu Nacional and, at the same time, one of the most successful pictorial remains from the Catalan panorama of the lower Middle Ages. Despite its excellence, we have lost trace of the circumstances that surround its production, as well as the accidents it suffered over time. Due to this fact, we analyse what knowledge we currently have about these questions, thanks to the patient fight of the scholars against oblivion.
You can follow the talks via Twitter with the hashtag #memoriamedieval
