Shapes of oil and water

Shapes of oil and water

From 21st July to 31st August 2023

Place:
Church of Sant Joan in Isil (Alt Àneu, les Valls d’Àneu)
Description:
Imprints and figurations in the Valls d’Àneu by Oriol Vilapuig...

To what degree is an image determined by the place in which it was born? Perhaps the images weave inseparable bonds or more intense experiences with the places where they were produced? What sense do the formerly sacred spaces take in our contemporaneity? What kind of anachronisms are generated when we are overwhelmed by seemingly immemorial gestures, shapes and acts?

This exhibition project expands and redefines Son, Imprints and figurations in Valls d’Aneu. An intervention by Oriol Vilapuig that took place in 2020 in the Romanesque rooms of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and which raised from the present new ways of questioning the past to sustain a relationship with more plural and complex time. This work gives visibility to some reliefs from the 11th and 12th centuries carved in various stone sinks specific to the Valls d'Àneu, which are currently found in the Romanesque churches of this territory.
