Sant Pere de Rodes, from ruin to myth

Sant Pere de Rodes, from ruin to myth

May 18, June 1 and 8, at 7 pm

Place:
Temporary Exhibition Hall 1
Description:

Recording and subsequent broadcast/publication on the Canal +MNAC of three 40–50 minute video-podcast conversations, as part of the exhibition dedicated to Sant Pere de Rodes.

Based on three conversations led by journalist and cultural communicator Rita Roig, the podcasts aim to explore some of the exhibition’s main conceptual themes, connecting heritage with contemporary perspectives.

The series examines how the myth surrounding the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes and the figure of the Master of Cabestany is constructed. It combines a historical perspective with a contemporary outlook, presenting an accessible yet rigorous narrative structured around three themes:

  • Territory and creation
  • Sacrality
  • Historiography/gender

Through this series, the aim is to create a space for reflection and dialogue that broadens the interpretation of the exhibition and offers new approaches to its content, in an accessible and engaging format.

The first session will take place on May 18, International Museum Day.

May 18: Sirens and Shepherds

A conversation on the Empordà landscape as a source of imagination and a driving force for creativity over time. From the Romanesque period to contemporary perspectives, the session explores how the territory inspires narratives, forms, and cultural identities.

June 1: Relics and Memories

An exploration of the role of relics and pilgrimages in shaping beliefs and myths. The session examines how the reuse of artworks and objects from the past contributes to reinforcing imaginaries and structures of power.

Manuel Castiñeiras (exhibition curator) and Daniel Rico (professor, UAB)

June 8: Presences and Absences

A critical perspective on who is included and who is left out in the construction of historical and heritage narratives. The session focuses on absences and on how a gender perspective allows for revisiting and reinterpreting traditional discourses, opening up new readings of the past.
