XIX Hispanic monetary history course
The course is dedicated to monitoring the evolution of numismatic heritage little known, but very abundant, usually grouped under the generic name of paramonetal. Behind this term, there are tokens, vouchers, tickets and cards that, without being legal tenders or not even to be issued by any state authority, have as a purpose act as supplementary pieces of the official currency in traffic or work as an alternative method of payment.
Catalonia has been a rich territory on paramonetales experiences that, with precedents of medieval and modern epoch, start with cards issued from the 19th century by cooperatives, industries, trades and recreative centers with a purpose that usually is associated with make easier the methods of payment, taking advantage of the pieces as a propaganda platform and on the periods of scarcity of currency, replacing or complementing the small currency. The last one happened during the Civil war in the whole or Principality, at the end of the year 1970, in Barcelona
Nowadays, the purpose of these experiences continue increasing. For this reason, after an approximation to the global reality of the most immediate alternative virtual currency and new forms of payment, the course will be closed with a round table where we will speak about the most recent experiences that has called as social coins and that has been developing in the local area with a high support.
