MUSEUMS NIGHT 2025

Description:
On Saturday, May 17, 2024, we celebrate a new edition of the Night of the Museums.

This event has been held in Barcelona since 2007, following the initiative of the Direction des Musées de France, and has become a major European event with wide public participation, offering the chance to visit museums outside regular hours (at night) with special and playful activities.

This year, the museum joins the theme of International Museum Day, "The future of museums in ever-changing communities", highlighting its role as an essential connector to the territory, an innovator, and a guardian of cultural identities.

Open doors to the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions until 1 am:
  • Temporary exhibition: Zurbarán (super)natural
  • Display "The Open House", part of the MNAC’s community project Comunitat 360º. Room 82
  • New rooms: "A Possible Modernity" (Room 81) and "Between Introspection and Revolt" (Room 81 bis): these rooms showcase the resistance of art during Francoism and the central role of women in aesthetic, emotional, and political fields

On-site artwork commentary
The museum is growing
From 8 pm to 11 pm
This year, looking ahead to MNAC’s 2029 expansion, we want to highlight a museum that is growing and changing, with on-site commentary on the museum’s most recent acquisitions, displayed in different parts of the collection: unpublished and unique works that reflect a museum in constant transformation

Building community through music
This year, the MNAC Night will feature live music performances by emerging bands from the Sants-Montjuïc District, part of the 7th edition of the Pedrera 3.8 program, promoted by the Centre Cultural Albareda and Espai Jove La Bàscula. The program supports young artists up to 35 years old looking to grow their musical projects. The Oval Hall will resonate with rock, pop, indie, blues, folk, and funk — a melting pot of sounds expressing the energy of our local scene

The night will also be brought to life by the Marxing Band of the Taller de Músics, performing live and filling various museum spaces with music

9:00–9:30 pm – Potser dimarts
A quintet of neighbors from Sants with melodies and harmonies woven from blues, folk, and metaphysical funk. The band includes Pol Lupión (rhythm guitar and vocals), Eloi Salat (drums and backing vocals), Pau Cuscó (bass and backing vocals), Maria Amor (keyboard and vocals), and Jordi Cercós (guitar and backing vocals)

10:00–10:30 pm – Matilda Mirana
Through pop/indie songs, Matilda Mirana explores themes such as accepting one’s inner shadows and setting boundaries to protect mental health. The band includes Matilda Mirana (vocals), Jordina Velasco (bass), Marta Urdiales (drums), Èlia Lucas (keyboard), Llucia Nebot (backing vocals), and Toni Mena (guitar)

11:00–11:30 pm – Asian Passerby
A band of Filipino heritage that blends rock and pop, mixing dynamic soundscapes with heartfelt stories. Founded by Filipino vocalist Joshua C. Madrid, who was raised in Hong Kong, the band has become a collaborative project with childhood friends Danny Cordero (guitar), Jerome Gabulac (drums), and Emile Marco (bass)

In addition, you’ll find self-guided games and routes to enjoy with your family. Delight in the special gastronomy for The Night, featuring a selection of dishes created by pastry chef Christian Escribà and chef Albert Raurich. And if you feel like sitting down to a meal, remember that the museum’s restaurant, l'Absis, is open every Friday and Saturday night; also during The Night!
