“The Invisible Museum”

We are launching a new series of visits to discover the Museum’s unique spaces and learn more about the work of the professionals who are responsible for the conservation, study and management of the collections. We will begin the tour with the Numismatic Cabinet of Catalonia and the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints.

Led by Albert Estrada-Rius and Maria Clua, Museum curators, we will discover the Numismatic Cabinet of Catalonia. As part of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, it allows us to trace the history of numismatics in Catalonia.

The Cabinet’s collection is the result of a process of acquisitions, donations, bequests and deposits that began during the first half of the 19th century and continues to this day. It comprises the main numismatic series, with examples produced from the 6th century BC to the present day, and contains almost 100,000 pieces.
