Guided tour: Rebellious Gazes. Thinking about sexual diversity and desire through art.
Sundays 4, 11, 18 and 25 June 2023, at 12 noon
Approximate duration: 90 minutes
Activity included in the price of admission to the museum, with places limited and reservation obligatory
In the context of LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, which is commemorated on 28 June, at the Museu Nacional we wish to celebrate diversity by inviting you to enjoy the guided tours “Rebellious gazes. Thinking about sexual diversity and desire through art” and think about a selection of works in the museum with a disruptive, non-formalist and non-historicist interpretation.
During the tour some of the concepts, themes and iconographies associated with queer art will be focused on: evoking the experience of the crucifixion from the perspective of experiences associated with AIDS/HIV; confirming the identifications of intersex people with the iconography of the angels; tracking when and why Saint Sebastian became a gay icon and defending works and artists that have broken down the stereotypes of the genre …. In sum, “Rebellious Gazes” seeks to queerize the Museu Nacional and rescue the underground gazes that for years needed and longed to appropriate the dominant visual narratives from a queer perspective.
