Empelt Project Presentation
Empelt Project Presentation

Description:
EMPELT is a project by the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and the Plataforma Assembleària d’Artistes de Catalunya (PAAC) that integrates local creators, in a residency or “graft” format, into working groups to investigate and reflect on the museum’s expansion process, the renewal of its collections and curatorial narratives, and the socio-cultural roles that the New MNAC will play.
The perspective of artists is essential for imagining the museum of the future.
The 2025 EMPELT artists—Elvira Pujol, Maria Jacarilla, and Joan Morey—will present their projects:
-
With the research “Museu Orgànic”, Elvira Pujol proposes opening the Palau Nacional to the mountain, establishing a new heritage relationship that views the museum as a custodian of shared cultural assets and as a guardian of the surrounding mountain and nature.
-
Maria Jacarilla’s “Museum of the Future” reflects on art and the future of museums through a video essay compiling around twenty interviews with various artistic and cultural agents, alongside information from artificial intelligence.
-
Joan Morey’s “Llàgrima precària” explores the museum as an activator of the iconography of crying through restoration and storage spaces, offering a new perspective on artistic engagement with the museum’s collections.
This presentation takes place within a full-day event dedicated to reflecting, through the arts and critical thought, on the New MNAC project.
