Description:
Two workshop proposals with two illustrator-sketchers as part of the Barcelona Dibuixa 2026 festival

Discover the architecture of the Palau Nacional and the natural surroundings of the Museum through drawing.

The architecture of the Palau Nacional and the surroundings of Montjuïc Park offer a unique opportunity to practise drawing architectural and natural spaces. We invite you to enjoy a Sunday morning with pencil in hand and discover, through drawing, the beauty of an iconic space such as the Oval Hall, as well as the natural surroundings and views of the city offered by the MNAC.

Two sketchers and Urban Sketchers, Jordi Monge and Daniel Pagans, with many sketchbooks under their belts, will be based at two points in the Museum, one indoors and the other outdoors, to accompany participants and offer some guidance to help them overcome their fear of the blank page.

A proposal in collaboration with the Urban Sketchers Barcelona community.

JORDI MONGE (Barcelona, 1972)

I grew up in an environment closely linked to graphic drawing. My father, a draughtsman at a graphic arts company, encouraged my creativity from a very young age: whenever my sister and I were bored, he would always find an excuse for us to pick up a pencil and paper and draw.

I am an urban planning architect by profession and currently work mainly in urban management and development. Drawing and painting are where I give free rein to my more artistic and creative side.

My graphic language is clearly influenced by architecture. I am interested in observing and representing spaces with a certain degree of rigour in perspective, proportion and construction details, while at the same time trying to preserve the freshness and spontaneity characteristic of drawing on site.

Most of my work is produced in travel sketchbooks, a format that encourages direct observation and the immediate capture of urban and architectural spaces. I also occasionally work on watercolour paper when I am looking for a more developed pictorial approach.

DANIEL PAGANS

A few years ago, while working as a graphic designer, I lived in several countries and began drawing the places that sparked my interest. Over time, I also began capturing my holidays, particularly the stages of the Camino de Santiago. Today I devote myself fully to urban sketching: I draw, travel and run workshops, including for Urban Sketchers International, always discovering new places to paint in Barcelona, my city.

My work focuses on painting on site, mainly in watercolour, with a close eye for urban spaces and landscapes that tell a story. I am interested in capturing the atmosphere, light and rhythm of each place rather than reproducing it faithfully. Through spontaneous brushstrokes and careful observation, I seek to convey the emotion of the moment and the beauty hidden in everyday life.
