MACBA is dedicating a major retrospective to Aurèlia Muñoz (1926–2011), one of the leading artists in the renewal of contemporary textile art and an essential figure in Catalan art of the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition Aurèlia Muñoz. Beings spans more than fifty years of her career and highlights a body of work that transcended the boundaries of the traditional tapestry to explore new sculptural and installation-based languages.

The exhibition features tapestries, textile sculptures, drawings, models, previously unseen works and documentation that trace the evolution of an artist who transformed thread, natural fibres and knots into her own visual language, closely linked to architecture, nature and space.

The exhibition includes works from the important donation made by the artist’s family to the MNAC, as well as Fountain of Life, acquired thanks to the Amics del MNAC.

This visit will allow us to discover the creative universe of an essential artist and highlight the pioneering role she played in transforming textile art into a fully contemporary discipline.
