Portrait or bust (Alan Bennett, 1993) expresses Bennet's personal vision of art and, specifically, of the Leeds City Art Gallery. The documentary shows how art teaches us how to be better citizens if we know to appreciate the museums and how to listen to the opinions of others.

The screening is the part of the fourth edition of the cycle For the Love of Art. Cinema and Painting that tackles the connection between cinematography and other arts. In the current edition we put an emphasis on the role of the museum as a cultural institution, the mechanisms it uses to create sense and value, the political dimensions of the characters and artworks. The Surrealism, that was evoked tangentially the other years, plays the protagonist role now.
