With the Eyes Closed. Before photography existed, nobody had ever been able to see a picture of themselves with their eyes closed. Based on this obvious fact, With the Eyes Closed shows itself to be a strange gallery in which, without trying to include everyone, Pere Formiguera has photographed all kinds of well-known people from the world of arts, science and thought who refuse to look the camera in the eye. Those of us who do look, who have our eyes open, can take the opportunity to spy without being spied upon and unashamedly develop our secret facet as a voyeur, because, after all, the portrait of someone with their eyes open always watches us, and returns the stare we give them as if interrogating us. And this, to some extent, is always disquieting, as can be learned from the thought-provoking essay by the philosopher Josep Maria Terricabras which accompanies the exhibition catalogue.
