Description:

Joaquim Vayreda was the founder of the Olot School of landscape painting, which is characterised by a style inspired by the painting of the Barbizon School in France, which included artists like Corot, Rousseau and Troyon. His painting concentrates on studies from life of the landscape of La Garrotxa and, especially, the cycle of the seasons. This work portrays the peaceful, still cold atmosphere of a day in March, with a wealth of shades of colour, and announces the imminent explosion of spring, under a leaden sky.
