Description:
The Romanesque carvings occasionally could fulfil the function of reliquaries. It is the case of this image of Christ, which has a cavity on the back of the figure, found in 1952, where a series of relics had been deposited wrapped in fragments of cloth. There were also two pieces of parchment, one with the date of the consecration, the year 1147, and so as an exception this piece can be dated precisely. A representation of suffering Christ (Christus patiens) offers a more painful and humane vision of Jesus, closer to the evangelic text and opposite to the Majestic Christ.
