The arrival of Humberto Rivas in Barcelona in 1976, from his native Argentina, where the atmosphere of violence and disappearances was beginning to be felt, was to mark a turning point in creative photography in Catalonia and, later, the rest of the country. From the moment he arrived he began to mix with the world of photography and its leading figures: Xavier Miserachs, Toni Catany, Joan Fontcuberta, Pere Formiguera, Manel Esclusa and other members of the seventies generation, for whom Rivas was a point of reference. Even today, new emerging photographers continue to look up to Humberto Rivas as a guru, and his photography, intense, powerful and capable of revealing these feelings barely and in a radically minimal way, is also a point of reference for the present generations of photographers.
