Three sessions to explore, through the observation of art and drawing practice, the LGTBIQ+ perspective on the MNAC collection, led by activist and artist Violet Ferrer and illustrator Aitana Giráldez.

This workshop, aimed at young people between 18 and 30 years old, has been organized in collaboration with Espai Jove La Bàscula in the La Marina neighbourhood.

The museum invites Violet Ferrer to revisit the MNAC collection from a transfeminist perspective, addressing the representation of sex work, women, and sexual and gender diversity in the works of the collection. This process seeks to reinterpret the museum within the geographical context of Montjuïc hill, a place traditionally linked to dissident sexual practices and identities, and aims to reinforce the museum as a space for new voices, new perspectives, and new resonances traditionally forgotten by official History. Violet draws on her background as the creator of the Putirutes through trans Barcelona, carried out in Ciutat Vella, as well as her own experience both as a sex worker and as a technician for various organisations and city councils working with the community.

This workshop is part of the MNAC’s Comunitat 360º programme, which fosters a community-based approach to the territories surrounding the museum within a 360-degree radius, in collaboration with civic centres, organisations, artists and various participatory spaces. Under the question “What if the museum were a home?”, we explore how the museum and artistic practices can become a space of refuge, gathering and well-being, strengthening its social and community role, which will be key in the future expansion of the New Museum.
