Description:
We celebrate the female gaze in cinema and the freedom to love with this love story between two women, excellently set in 1770s France. Marianne, a painter, is commissioned to paint the wedding portrait of Héloïse, the daughter of a countess who has just left the convent and is facing a wedding she does not see clearly. Marianne has to paint her portrait without her realising it, so she sets out to study her in order to get to know her very well. Celine Sciamma's vision and Claire Mathon's spectacular (and painterly) photography are extraordinary.
