Description:
Blossoming Museums

Blossoming museums, a unique and exclusive opportunity to discover the flowers that are hidden in some objects in the collections of the participating museums, through a cycle of 6 visits to different museums in the city: the MUHBA, the Museu Frederic Marès, the Museu de la Música, the Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes, the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.

The visit to the Museu Nacional will take place on Tuesday 24th May under the title Hortus conclusus. Symbolism and visual paradoxes of an artistic genre. We will tour the rooms of the museum, stopping at all that iconographic repertoire linked to the representation of floral and fruit motifs. We will analyse and reflect on the genre of still life and give some clues to interpretive reading about its symbolism and its function in modern society. Talk given by Francesc Quílez Corella, chief curator of the Cabinet of Drawings and Engravings and coordinator of the Cabinets of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.
