Conference: The Iconographic [Art] Repertoire of Spain. The adventure of documenting heritage

Description:

A conference will be held on 2nd May to talk about the collection of the Iconographic [Art] Repertoire of Spain, with the aim of highlighting the importance of this collection, part of which has been kept in the installations of the Palau Nacional since 1970.

The creation of the Repertoire was a Catalan milestone in the cataloguing and inventory of artistic heritage. The project of this inventory, made up of more than 105,000 files, involved numerous institutions and companies that collaborated, providing graphic documents, photographs and drawings, but also human and logistical resources.

10.15 – 11.00am Keynote speech. The Iconographic Repertoire: the ambition to know. Joan Boadas i Raset, archivist of the city of Girona

11.00 - 11.45am The involvement of Jeroni Martorell i Terrats in the making of the Iconographic Repertoire of Spanish Art during the period of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya. Raquel Lacuesta Contreras, doctor in Art History and academic from the Catalan Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi

11.50am - 12.10pm Coffee break

12.15 – 1.00pm The Iconographic Repertoire in the framework of the Mas Archive. Carmen Perrotta, art historian and documentalist of the Fundació Institut Amatller d’Art Hispànic.

1.00 - 2.45pm The archive of a country cultural project. Pilar Cuerva Castillo, head of the Centre of Research and Knowledge (CREC) of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.

1.45 - 2.30am Archeology in the Iconographic Repertoire of Spain. A reflection of the research of its time. Àngels Casanovas, conservator of the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya.

2.30 – 4.00pm Lunch

4.00 - 4.45pm After the Iconographic Repertoire of Spain: photography in El Arte en España, 1926-1935. Rafel Torrella Reñé, conservator of the Photographic Archive of Barcelona.

4.45 - 5.30pm The archive as a symptom: revelation and concealment in the Spanish Iconographic Repertoire. Mela Dávila Freire, independent researcher.

5.30 – 6.00pm The Iconographic Repertoire. Guidelines for a comprehensive treatment. David Iglesias Franch, head of the Photographic and Audiovisual Documentation Section of Girona City Council. Chair of the Group of Experts on Photographic and Audiovisual Documents of the International Council on Archives.

6.00-6.15 pm Closing
