Description:

A pioneer and master of the graphic arts in Modernista Catalonia, Riquer in his posters showed a very personal blend of his own and other people's research and made a name for himself at home and abroad. In Salón Pedal, done as an advertisement for a cycle track in Málaga inaugurated in 1897, a rich ornamentation of floral motifs surrounds the figure of the female cyclist who gives the advertisement its allure. Riquer, one of the finest practitioners of decorative poster art in Catalonia, soon presented the work at various exhibitions (such as the one held at the Saló de La Vanguardia or the first exhibition of Catalan posters in 1899), where it met with considerable success.

This work has been selected for the project 'Partage Plus – Digitising and Enabling Art Nouveau for Europeana'
