The Museu Nacional is renewing its exhibition discourse by expanding the rooms dedicated to the art of the Civil War period. Painting, sculpture and engraving, together with the new mass media, such as posters, photography and cinema, were placed at the service of both sides. This total mobilisation led to the culmination of many of the aspirations of modern art and the avant-garde, with a transformation of the artist as a producer of art for the masses.
The Pavilion of the Spanish Republic, built for the International Exhibition in Paris in 1937, clearly represents the synthesis of all the arts under the control of propaganda and the commitment of Spanish artists to the Republic.
