Print [1]
1999 - P. Bonhomme, G. Mora i J.M. de Miguel
Description:

This catalogue explores the work of Smith, who goes beyond the dimension of photojournalism. Thus, to reflect on his work is to raise the issues of the validity of his work as a means of expression, when it is based on the contradictory demands of communication and aesthetics. If one can reassess the aesthetic value here from the perspective of fidelity to the emotions felt by the person operating the camera, the truth obtained in the photographic essay takes on the value of 'moral truth', more essential to Smith than objective truth. Or this would seem to be the sensation one takes away from the Smith photographs included in this catalogue. We would especially point out those belonging to the report entitled 'Spanish Village', consisting of photographs taken in the town of Deleitosa in Extremadura--a look at the postwar rural panorama in Spain, with accompanying essay by Jesús M. de Miguel. The book concludes with a chronology and basic bibliography on Smith, along with the Spanish translation of the text.
