Coins in Iberian Society. Résumé of the lectures featured in the II Course on the Monetary History of Hispania (November 26 and 27, 1998), 'Coins in Iberian Society', acquainting us with the coins produced by the Iberians, peoples which between the 5th and the 1st century B.C. went from knowing about the coins produced by other peoples to making mintages of their own. Investigation is made into what lies behind each of the iconographies chosen by the Iberians and what procedures they used to produce their coin issues. Unanswered questions still remain: Why the emergence of Iberian issues? Was it out of their own initiative, or was this a Roman imposition? To what uses exactly did they put their coins? To what degree were coins used in everyday life in Iberian society?
